Get in your pink Lamborghinis and pull out your pink martinis. Pink Friday 2 is officially here. After weeks of promoting, pushing back, and hyping up the follow-up to her 2010 fan favorite, the queen of rap Nicki Minaj has finally released her first studio album since 2018’s Queen. The 22-track album packs features with Drake, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzι Vert, Future, and more
The rapper dropped the track list for Pink Friday 2 less than an hour ahead of the highly-anticipated release. The album encompasses 22 new songs and packs features with the likes of Drake, J. Cole, Lil Wayne, Tate Kobang, Lourdiz, Lil Uzι Vert, Skillibeng, Skeng, Tasha Cobbs Leonard, and Future.
Leading up to the release, Barbz created an AI world named Gag City — a hyper-futuristic, uber-pink metropolis — where Pink Friday 2 lives, based on the album’s cover which sees Minaj standing on a floating platform over Teenage Dream-esque clouds in front of an imaginary city.
“As we begin to prepare for landing, please make sure your tray tables are put back up & your seat belts are tightly fastened,” Minaj wrote on X (formerly Twitter) Thursday. “The captain has activated the ‘no bathroom’ sign. If you look out the window, you’ll begin to see the beauty…clear waters, pink dolphins…#GagCity #PF2.”
Dunkin, WheatThins, and Axe created fake pink storefronts, Biа tweeted “This is so tea,” AI-Rosalía arrived on a boat with a Spanish flag, and Grindr explored the concept of gag city without a gag reflex.
Pink Friday 2 is the singer’s first studio album since Queen, which included “Chun-Li” and “Good Form.” The Queen Radio greatest hits CD and Beam Me Up Scotty reissue were released last year and 2021, respectively. In 2019, the singer announced she was working on a new album and tweeted “PF2” in 2020, anticipating a Pink Friday reunion.
I want to make beautiful music. Just to make beautiful music. Why is that wrong? Music people will always remember for the great emotion they received with their first listen. Minaj teased the album on her website, stating that it will evoke emotions such as happiness, confidence, hope, sadness, introspection, and nostalgia. “Music expressing relationship thoughts during a time when people feаr falling in love due to Facebook embarrassment…”
The rapper delayed the album twice. Minaj moved its release from Oct. 20 to Nov. 17, calling it “well worth the wait.” She changed the date to her birthday, Dec. 8.
In late October, Minaj revealed, “The new album date for this incredible body of work, that I am so proud of is on a special day to me and the Barbz—it will come out on my birthday.” I am thrilled to announce Pink Friday 2 will be released on my birthday.”
In August 2022, she released “Suρer Freaky Girl,” and in September, “Last Time I Saw You,” her album’s intended singles.
In a Vogue interview, the rapper discussed Pink Friday 2.
“When I look back at a lot of my music, I’m like, Oh, my God, where was the me in it?” “For this album, I went back to the old game plan.” Minaj polled her fans to see which path she should take on album.
Minaj teased the song with the lyrics: “I just wanna watch him do his push-ups w/his sweats on/Every time he Һit it, he gon nail it like a press-on/When I ride his d!”At the single time he flexed, Һit it from the rear with my pumps and dress.
In 2010, Minaj released Pink Friday, followed by Roman Reloaded and Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up in 2012. The first LP included her breakthrough hits “Suρer Bass,” “Did It On’Em,” and “Fly.” The Roman Reloaded edition included hits including “Starships,” “Beez in the Trap,” and “Va Va Voom.”
Minaj revealed European tour dates, including stadium gigs in London, Paris, and Berlin, to prepare her Barbz for the album’s Friday release.
