Travis Kelce is expected back in Boca Raton this offseason for an eight-week exercise with his trainer, Andrew Spruill.
There could be a wrinkle this time. Spruill, a 2012 Florida Atlantic exercise science graduate, hopes Kelce’s girlfriend may attend some sessions.
Kelce has been associated with Kansas native Spruill since training him in Boca Raton for the 2013 NFL Combine. Chiefs tight end Kelce, 34, has rented a Boca property for two months in seven of his 11 NFL offseasons to practice with Spruill.
“According to him, he’s coming back,” Spruill added. “I went to see him for two games. I expect him back, especially if he wants to play at his age. He must prepare in the gym.

Spruill met Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, during a post-game party after both games this season. After talking, Spruill hasn’t offered his services to the singer. Spruill, 39, a former Air Force officer in Germany, believes he can help Swift retain her performance stamina.
“I’ll see her next month,” said Delray Beach resident Spruill. “I met her twice. Maybe we can discuss her workout program and determine if she needs support. I read about her workouts. Her workout involves treadmill running and sprinting while singing.
Spruill’s Game Speed rents Johnny O’s Gym to Palm Beach County/Broward high school and college players.
After the Air Force, Spruill interned at XPE Sports, which prepared college athletes for the draft combine, at FAU.
Spruill continued XPE after graduation. Working with 500 combine participants is his estimate. After joining the Chiefs, Cincinnati-educated Kelce stayed with Spruill.
“The whole Kansas connection was coincidental,” Spruill remarked. “We were lucky to build a good relationship, and he kept visiting.
The Kelce-Swift relationship has elevated the Chiefs All-Pro. This season, Kelce has averaged 69.1 yards per game, his lowest since 2017. Advanced analytics reveal Kelce is breaking fewer tackles than before. Pundits are already calling Swift a distracted bad-luck charm.
That’s absurd, argues Spruill.
“He started off hurt and missed game one,” Spruill said. “He hyperextended his knee at practice two days before the game. He began with an injury he’d never faced. He has been a healthy NFL player throughout his career. He missed his first year but not a game till this year.
“That, plus a new offense and receivers, it hasn’t come together as expected,” Spruill said. ‘It obviously dampened his regular productivity.

Kelce is still having a good season. “He needs 30 yards to hit 1,000 yards for the eighth year in a row his next game,” Spruill said. He will get that, but not in the numbers we expect. It combines many things. It’s not just him aging.
The tight end had hernia surgery when Spruill coached him for the combine. So, they worked out less. Kelce was the seventh tight end picked in the third round. following returning to Boca following his first season, Spruill realized his potential.
“That’s when we really saw his athleticism,” Spruill added. He moves like a slot receiver at 6-6, 250, despite his height.
After missing each other this offseason, Spruill is excited to see Kelce back in Boca due to his hard work.
“Many guys like him are so good, but when they train, they’re still in the ‘I-don’t-know-anything’ mode,’” Spruill remarked. “They never think they know everything. Despite his skill, individuals like him still listen, take notes, and get tutored in the gym. Being coachable and athletic makes great players.
