Lil Wayne donated $200,000 to repair a New Orleans park after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Weezy donated because he played in the park as a kid and thought it would inspire other musicians to donate.
Wayne returned to this park in 2012 to film a music video for “Ball” with T.I.
After the 2010 Haiti earthquake killed over 300,000 people and left over 1 million homeless, Lil Wayne sang on the charity track “We Are The World 25 For Haiti”.
The February 12, 2010 charity record, created by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, was a reworking of the 1985 “We Are The World” song. The single was promoted with the music video above.
Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Barbra Streisand, Pink, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Enrique Iglesias, and 40 more are on “We Are The World 25 For Haiti”. In 2010, Lil Wayne gifted Ronda Austin’s mother, Evelyn Austin, a Quantum 6000 wheelchair. Weezy reproduced Bob Dylan’s original vocals from “We Are The World” for the single and joked about it in an interview. Weezy met Ronda through her letters while he was at Rikers Island.
Ronda wrote Wayne about her family and her fandom in these letters. Tune then called her and offered to help her and her father get Evelyn a wheelchair.
Tunechi’s kindness allowed Evelyn to leave the house for the first time in years. Ronda Austin and her family recount the story above!
