Millions of Taylor Swift admirers watch Kansas City Chiefs games every week in the hopes of seeing the pop sensation support her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. Some people, including former NFL player and coach Tony Dungy, are annoyed with the “distraction” from the sport despite the increased viewership her attendance has given to the NFL.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Dungy was asked about the “Taylor Swift effect” on sports and the NFL. He didn’t hold back.
The NFL Hall of Famer stated, “That’s what’s disenchanting people with sports now.” “There’s so much on the outside coming in—entertainment value and different things taking away from what really happens on the field.”
Swifties responded on social media to Dungy’s insult, demonstrating that they had noticed it. “At this point, Taylor Swift is a lot better for football, and the world, than Tony Dungy,” a user on X (previously Twitter) commented.
An other tweet stated, “Tony Dungy went completely bonkers, accusing Taylor Swift of deterring fans from watching the NFL.” greatest total TV ratings since 2000, in second place. best MNF ratings since 2000, ranking second. 97 of the top 100 tv programs of 2023. Swift has significantly improved the NFL.”
Another user of X commented, “If there is a reason for ‘disenchantment’ as Tony Dungy said it’s NFL putting Thursday night games and playoff games behind a paywall, awful broadcast crews who don’t research the teams they’re calling along with terrible officiating not Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce.”
It’s important to remember that during that same Fox News interview, retired NFL player Vince Ferragamo praised Swift.
It’s pretty wonderful; my granddaughter is a big Swiftie. And there’s been a lot of enthusiasm with Travis Kelce, too,” Ferragamo said. “There is undoubtedly a lot more interest in football now. Because of her immense popularity, all people want to watch these days is her reaction to the game while she’s in the stands.”
We really couldn’t have put it better!
