There is a new picture online of the musician who used to be known as Kanye West wearing a t-shirt from the controversial Norwegian black metal band BURZUM.
Today (Friday, January 19), American rapper, singer, and record artist JPEGMafia posted a picture of himself on social media with West, who is wearing the BURZUM item.
The picture was posted by JPEGMafia just a few days after he asked Ye in public why he was ignoring his studio skills in favor of artists “who have less to offer u than me.” JapeGMafia then said that he was “a scientist in the lab, a surgeon.”
Kristian “Varg” Vikernes, also known as Count Grishnackh, started BURZUM. In 1994, he was found guilty of killing MAYHEM guitarist Oystein Aarseth (a.k.a. Euronymous) in August 1993 and given Norway’s longest prison sentence of 21 years. He was also sentenced for setting three churches on fire, including the original Holmenkollen Chapel next to the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Oslo. After spending 16 years of his term, he got out of jail in 2009.
Some parts of BURZUM’s 1996 song “Rundgang Um Transzendentale Saule Der Singularitat” were used in Gucci Mane’s rap song “Print” in 2016.
Several news sites pointed out last month that West’s future album, “Vultures,” looks a lot like record covers by BURZUM in terms of style and fonts.
Vikernes was freed from jail, but he kept posting extreme ideas on his website. He said that “civil, race, and a return to extreme nationalism” are “the only solution.” He said: “Nothing other than a new Ice Age can stop immigration from Asia and Africa.”
West has been in the news a lot lately for making racist comments. In 2022, he was named “antisemite of the year” by the watchdog group StopAntisemitism after writing on X that he on Jews. Many of the rapper’s sponsors chose to cut ties with him after what he said, ending their relationships with him.
