The Kansas City Chiefs’ tҺrilling Suρer Bowl victory on Sunday brought the community together, but it is still suffering from a tragedy that left numerous people, including children, injured. At least 22 individuals were shot, and one of them passed away, according to Kansas City officials on Wednesday.
However, when the inquiry into the devastating end to a joyous day in the Missouri city begins, there are still a lot of things that the authorities do not know.
As per the Gu𝚗 Viоlence Archive, this is at least the 48th mass shooting in the US this year that took place during a march and rally for the Chiefs.
This is what we currently know:
Victims: According to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves, at least 22 individuals have been shot. As per Ross Grundyson, interim chief of the Kansas City Fire Department, one of those individuals has passed away. He said, “There were children among the shooting victims.” The deceased’s identity is still being investigated by officials.
What is known about the survivors’ conditions:
According to Grundyson, eight of them had instantly life-threatening injuries and were sent to hospitals in less than ten minutes.
Seven sustained injuries that were potentially fatal.
Six sustained minor wounds.
What took place was: According to Graves, the incident took place in downtown Kansas City on the west side of Union Station. Despite accounts from witnesses that officers were running into nearby buildings, the police chief stated that the incident took place outside. Officers began assisting injured parties as soon as they arrived on the scene.
Three people have been held by the police, according to Graves, pending further inquiry. She had earlier said that when police came on the scene, they arrested two persons and even pursued one of them. “Some fans tackling someone” is depicted in a video that has gone viral, she said. If one of the people in custody is the same person who appears in the video, authorities are attempting to identify them. Graves added that weapons had been found by the police.
Principal unknowns at this time:
The number of rounds that were fired
The interval between shots
The reason
Was there more than one gunman, and who was it?
What’s taking place right now: According to Graves, police are questioning victims, conducting interviews, and gathering both digital and physical evidence. “We’re moving as fast as we can, but there’s a lot of work ahead—this is just the beginning,” she remarked. The White House claims that federal law enforcement has been offering assistance.
Reaction: In a statement, the Kansas City Chiefs organization expressed its sadness over the shooting and referred to it as a “senseless act of viоlence.” The National Football League applauded law enforcement and expressed its sympathies “with the victims and everyone affected”. On social media, a few individual players also posted encouraging remarks.
