Vultures 1, a collaborative effort between Ty Dolla $ign and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West), debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart on February 24. This is Ye’s first No. 1 and Ty Dolla $ign’s eleventh. According to Luminate, the set achieved 148,000 equivalent album units in the United States during the week ending February 15, after its release on February 10.
Furthermore, Usher’s most recent studio album, Coming Home, debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, earning him his highest-charting album in over a decade. It has amassed 91,000 units of revenue.
Compilated by Luminate, the Billboard 200 tally counts the most popular albums of the week in the United States according to multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA) are all considered units. Each unit corresponds to one album transaction, ten individual track sales from the album, 3,750 ad-supported official audio and video streams, or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated from the album’s compositions. Billboard’s website will publish the complete February 24, 2024 chart on February 21, 2024, which is one day later than usual due to the observance of Presidents’ Day in the United States on February 19. Album sales account for 18,000 of the 148,000 units earned by Vultures 1 during the tracking week ending February 15; SEA units account for 129,000 (equivalent to 167.78 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs); and TEA units account for 1,000.
At the outset, Vultures 1 was exclusively accessible through streaming platforms and could be purchased as a digital download album. Ye’s official webstore and prominent digital retailers carried the original 16-track collection, which was accessible via all major streaming platforms. CD and vinyl variants of the album are currently available for pre-order at Ye’s store. Their release is anticipated to occur at a later date. Aim аggressive sale pricing to increase the set’s first-week sales.
Although none of the collaborators Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Chris Brown are credited as billed artists on the album’s tracklist, they all make appearances. North, who is ten years old, also provides vocal contributions to the composition “Talking.”
Vultures 1, the debut studio album by both Ty and Ye, was independently published on February 10 via Ye’s own label YZY following several postponements since its original October release date of the major label system. Ye has not released an album since his series of hate speech and antisemitic remarks caused major record labels and corporations, including Adidas and Def Jam Recordings, to distance themselves from the artist. (All of Ye’s previous studio albums were released by Def Jam, including his most recent extensively distributed album, Donda, in 2021).
Issued on February 10, Vultures 1 had a turbulent first week on the market. On February 15, its initial independent distributor, FUGA, discontinued the initiative. The same day, another independent label, Label Engine (a division of Create Music Group), acquired the set.
A composition that was initially featured on Vultures 1—”Good (Don’t )”—was subsequently withdrawn from the album’s streaming edition on February 14 on Spotify, and subsequently removed on February 15 from other streamers and digital retailers. The composition seems to incorporate components from Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love,” a 1977 single, into the song. Summer’s estate lodged a claim that West utilized the track without authorization, alleging a “copyright infringement.” The elimination of “Good” from the album’s tracklist on February 15 rendered the album unavailable for purchаse on digital retailers such as the iTunes Store and Amazon. (“Good” remained intact, however, and it remained for sale via Ye’s official website.)
Ye shares eleven No. 1 singles with both Barbra Streisand and Bruce Springsteen. Only The Beatles (with an unprecedented 19 No. 1), Jay-Z (with 14), Drake, and Taylor Swift (each with 13) are ahead of them. Ye has achieved the record of eleven consecutive No. 1 albums with Vultures 1, more than any other artist. (With fourteen overall No. 1 debuts, Jay-Z has the most, but they were not consecutive.)
Vultures 1 is the first leader and second top 10-charting endeavor for Ty. He has accumulated eight appearances on the list, with Featuring Ty Dolla $ign reaching its highest position of No. 4 in 2020.
The single “Vultures,” which featured Bump J, debuted at No. 38 on the Hоt R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in December, preceding Vultures 1.
With Coming Home, his latest studio album, Usher attains his highest-charting album position in over a decade, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. As of the week ending February 15, the album, which was released on February 9, amassed 91,000 equivalent album units in the United States. SEA units comprise 34,500 (equivalent to 45.82 million official on-demand streams of the set’s tracks), album sales comprise 53,000, and TEA units comprise 3,500 of that total.
The release date for Coming Home was declared in September of last year, immediately following the announcement that Usher would perform at the 2024 Suρer Bowl halftime show on February 11.
CBS and its simulcasts on Nickelodeon, Univision, Paramount+, and additional digital platforms combined to deliver the 2024 Suρer Bowl, which attracted 123.4 million viewers, the most in the history of American television. Usher’s halftime performance was comprised entirely of well-known tracks from his discography, including “My Boo” (featuring Alicia Keys), “U Got It Bad” (featuring H.E.R. ), “OMG” (featuring will.i.am), and the concluding “Yeah!” (featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris).
Usher’s ninth consecutive top-ten album on the Billboard 200 is Coming Home, which is also his highest-charting studio album since June 2012, when Looking 4 Myself debuted at No. 1. Following that, he achieved chart success with the collaborative set A with Zaytoven (No. 31 in 2018) and Hard II Love (No. 5 in 2016).
Arriving Home marks Usher’s inaugural album released under an independent distribution label, following a lengthy tenure with major labels BMG and Sony (via LaFace, Arista, and RCA). Mega (Usher’s personal label in collaboration with L.A. Reid) and Gamma (led by Larry Jackson) published the new album, which was disseminated by Vydia (a division of the Gamma organization).
During its inaugural week, Coming Home was offered for purchаse in various formats: a standard digital download, a standard CD, five distinct vinyl variants, two deluxe packaged sets, and a deluxe digital album featuring an alternative cover art and bonus track. Alongside Usher’s new prominent character in an SKIMS campaign, the latter was promoted as an SKIMS exclusive and distributed for a limited time via the SKIMS official store and Usher’s own webstore. Like Vultures 1, the first week after its release, the digital album Coming Home was offered at a steep discount.
“Good Good,” a collaboration between Summer Walker and 21 Sаvаge, was the preceding single from Coming Home. In November, the single attained its highest position on the all-genre Billboard Hоt 100 at No. 25. This is Usher’s first entry into the top 40 since 2017 and his highest-charting track since 2015, when “I Don’t Mind,” featuring Juicy J, peaked at No. 11.
Stick Season by Noah Kahan reaches its all-time high on the Billboard 200, ascending 5-3. The album’s ascent is fueled by the introduction of its new deluxe edition. Stick Season earns 85,000 equivalent album units (up 74%; its highest-grossing week to date in terms of units-earned) subsequent to the February 9 release of a deluxe edition featuring nine additional tracks. This deluxe edition features collaborations with Post Malone, Kacey Musgraves, and others; it is titled Stick Season (Forever). The initial Stick Season album, which debuted in 2022 with 14 tracks, was deluxe-edited in June of that year with seven more tracks (causing it to ascend from No. 100 to No. 3), and was deluxe-edited once more on February 9, 2022, with nine more tracks. A compilation of all album versions is utilized for the purposes of monitoring and charting.
Former number-one singles make up the remaining ten on the new Billboard 200: One Thing at a Time by Morgan Wallen experiences a decline of 2-4 (64,000 equivalent album units earned; a decline of 1%); SZA’s SOS falls of 3-5 (51,000; a decline of 4%); 1989 (Taylor’s Version) by Taylor Swift increases by 8-6 (50,000; a 3% increase); Swift’s Lover by 9-7 (48,000; a 7% increase); Swift’s Midnights by 5-8 (46,000; a 9% decline); 35 Biggest Hits by Toby Keith falls from 1-9 (46,000; a decline of 31%); and Drake’s For All the Dogs falls of 6-10 (45,000; an 8% decline of 8%).
