SAN FRANCISCO: Tuesday night at Chase Center, controversial rap artist Kanye West hosted a large and energetic crowd for his Vultures listening party. The performance area on the arena floor was completely cleared, and a circle of fabric was draped at the center where video of the performers was projected during the show. Ty Dolla $ign, West’s main collaborator on the Billboard 200-topping album Vultures 1, was featured in the event, which had the feel of a music video.
At 130 decibels, according to one phone app measurement, the sound system struggled to produce the album’s deep bass blasts, while Ye and Ty Dolla $ign, dressed all in black, danced and pointed to the audience.
Interestingly, Ye was wearing a black sweatshirt with the word Adidas phonetically written in Russian. Since the shoe firm fired West in 2022 due to his repeated antisemitic remarks, he and the company have been at odds. He has accused it of steаling his shoe ideas in the last few days.
The album’s tracks “Stars” and “Keys to My Life” were among those that the audience sang and danced to. As has been the norm at this wave of gatherings dubbed listening parties rather than traditional concerts, the two rapped along to backing tracks.
Wearing an ushanka hat, North, West’s ten-year-old daughter, joined her father for her verse on “Talking” early in the performance and made a comeback later. The audience cheered loudly during both presentations. Kim Kardashian’s ex-wife and model Bianca Censori’s current wife were there at the event, and they sat next to one other and sang along.
The two rappers instructed the audience to raise their fingers later in the performance.
“This is the world’s most popular song right now!” You shouted.
The crowd went into a frenzy upon hearing the brief blast from “Carnival”‘s entrance and seeing rapper Rich the Kid perform live. Ye eventually took off his hockey mask and strolled around the edge of the arena floor, dancing and waving to the fans, energizing them.
Ye and Ty Dolla $ign performed all of the songs from the new album before going over a few previously unheard songs from Vultures 2, their upcoming follow-up album. The songs included “Slide,” “Field Trip,” and “Matthew,” though it was hard to hear them over the loud audience and bass thumps.
The pair danced to a number of his biggest hits during the last show section, such as “Runaway” and “All of the Lights” from his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, “Can’t Tell Me Nothing” from 2007’s Graduation, and “In Paris” from his 2011 joint album with Jay-Z. “Heartless,” which was interrupted in the middle, marked the suԀԀen end of the program.
Early in the evening, people were waiting up for doors and expressing their excitement to see Kanye West.
20-year-old Darius Childs of Daly City stated, “He’s the greatest rapper in the world, and I’ve never had the chance to see him live.”
Many of the individuals we met with mentioned that, due to their age, this was their first chance to witness the contentious celebrity.
Since our time in high school, we have been fans of Kanye. It’s an exciting time, and even though it’s just a listening party, just to be in his presence is really exciting,” said San Francisco resident Kent Hsiu, who went with two friends. “He’s taken a little break from touring, so this is one of the first times he’s back in San Francisco after all that.”
Many in attendance were prepared to ignore the rapper’s past misdeeds—he had uttered antisemitic slurs in public at a similar listening party event in 2022—in favor of his brilliance as an artist.
I can’t wait to see him. Nathan Ka, of San Francisco, went to the concert with Hsiu and stated, “I really wаnted to see him in high school, but back then we were young and couldn’t really afford these concerts.” things’s cool to spend our money to truly experience things now that we’re adults. Though I believe he is nearing the end of his career, it’s kind of late, and it should still be enjoyable.
The Ye and Ty Dolla $ign listening party in San Francisco was organized independently, much like the others. Hits Daily Double, a news outlet, said last week that Live US and AEG, the two biggest concert promoters in the US, turned down Ye’s request to collaborate on events. However, it’s evident that Ye and Ty Dolla $ign can sell out venues even in the absence of big-nаme event promoters. Additionally, the album made its debut at number one on the Billboard 200, marking Kanye West’s 11th album chart top spot. It was Ty Dolla $ign’s first.
As was customary for Ye, the San Francisco listening party started approximately thirty minutes after its scheduled start time. Venue security ordered several people to move who had been let onto the floor before the event began. Shortly before the event began, the floor gates were closed as well. Some people were told to go to the seats on Chase Center’s third floor.
