British band Coldplay lights up Singapore Stadium with a kaleidoscopic concert

On January 23, Coldplay’s first of six concerts in Singapore’s 55,000-capacity National Stadium, the arena was lit up.

The foursome is the first to book six nights at one of Singapore’s largest music venues.

They’ll perform Jan. 24, 26, 27, 30, and 31.

Taylor Swift will perform six sold-out nights at the National Stadium in March.

After Singaporean artist Jasmine Sokko and Indonesian singer Jinan Laetitia, Coldplay performed at 8.35pm.

On popular ballad The Scientist, singer Chris Martin briefly fumbled on the piano but recovered and restarted it alongside guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman, and drummer Will Champion.

Paradise and Viva La Vida were among the popular pop and rock songs the fans sung along to while wearing LED wristbands that changed color with the music.

Security checks began around 4pm, and 26-year-old undergraduate Sheryl Chow was among the first fans in. She arrived at the stadium two hours earlier.

“Coldplay songs like Fix You and The Scientist helped me through some difficult times, like when I was failing school subjects and having relationship issues,” she stated.

Many fans bought S$60 T-shirts and $45 bucket hats while waiting for the concert.
