Gwyneth Paltrow explains how she stays friends with her ex-husband Chris Martin.
British Vogue interviewed Gwyneth, who launched wellness brand GOOP, for life and style advice.
The 51-year-old actress and entrepreneur said the secret to keeping friends with an ex, like her 46-year-old Coldplay frontman, is why you dated them.
Her advice for a happy ex-relationship: ‘Remember what made you fall in love with them in the first place.’
Gwyneth said her biggest gift was to her 52-year-old husband Brad Falchuk.
‘A movie of my husband’s life for his 50th birthday,’ she remarked of her five-year-old gift.
When asked what makes her sexy, Gwyneth said, ‘My husband.’
To keep a relationship going, she advised being ‘totally responsibility for your side of the street.’
Following her divorce from English singer Chris two years earlier, Gwyneth married Glee producer Brad in 2018.
Both Brad and Gwyneth were still married to their exes when they met in 2010 during her five-episode stint on Fox’s Glee. They dated in 2014 and married four years later.
‘I had to do a lot of work on myself in order to be ready for my marriage with Brad since I was still locked in unhealthy childhood attachment patterns,’ the Emmy winner said.
I have to stand up and realize I want to be with someone who calms my nerves and brings out my best. I contemplated those things. I didn’t want stress around my boyfriend. I wanted calm and elevation.
I wanted to feel like I was continually studying or in a learning environment, and he offered that. However, I had to rewire a broken part of myself. That was unnerving, to be honest.
When asked by Bustle in October if she felt ‘freed’ from the male gaze after marrying Brad, Gwyneth replied.
‘I love my spouse so much, so that’s really transformed things for me,’ said the mother of two.
I probably don’t enter a room the same way now. Very lucky. He’s terrific and my best pal.
