Last night, on the opening night of their new tour, Coldplay drove concertgoers to tears with a heartfelt homage to Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.
At New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Chris Martin and company performed a poignant piano version of the rock band’s Һit song “Crawling.” Chris reduced the nu-metal song to a straightforward, melancholic ballad.
Fans claim that Chris repeated the song after feeling he messed up the entrance because he wаnted to make sure it was flawless and dedicated the performance to “anyone who’s missing someone”.
Fans of both Coldplay and Linkin Park enthusiastically applauded the performance. Mike Shinoda, Chester’s bandmate, posted a video of Chris’s performance on social media and said, “Thank you @coldplay, it sounded beautiful.”
At the age of 41, Chester Bennington took his own life on July 20. On Sunday, a private funeral was held in California to honor the rock star.
Dave “Phoenix” Farrell, the bassist for Linkin Park, had honored his friend in a series of tweets, writing: “The memories we have of Chester will be a significant part of his legacy.”
He was a lively and amusing parent. An honorable, driven musician as well as a faithful friend. The monuments that have been held all across the world have moved me.
