Coldplay “are not a rock band,” according to U2’s Bono, who also defended the band against being “judged” by music lovers in accordance with those guidelines.

The eight-part BBC Sounds series Music Uncovered: The Genius Of Coldplay, hosted by Greg James, featured a speech by the Irish rock singer. The show explores the band’s ascent with the assistance of supporters, fellow musicians, and significant figures in their path.

It also features video snippets of musicians who discussed the band’s significance to them, such as Stormzy and Griff. “It just sort of sticks to you, tighter than time itself,” said Bono, referring especially to “Clocks” from the second studio album “A Rush of Blооd to the Head.”

The frontman continued, recalling how he initially heard the smаsh song and felt like he was “punching the air in a manly but not аggressive way” before realizing that “this is just better than anyone else’s song right now.”

The performer went on, “I should clarify that Coldplay is not a rock group. I think that’s clear. Like the Isley Brothers or whatever, there’s something far more interesting going on there.

“Rock rules should not be used to judge them. The river behind most rock formations is called rage. I believe “Clocks,” one of Coldplay’s songs, best captures the band’s unique inspiration.

This year, Coldplay is scheduled to headline Glastonbury, becoming the first act to do so five times at the Worthy Farm event.

This month, they’ll head the lineup at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which also features Vаmpire Weekend, Beabadoobee, and other acts.

After Chris Martin said that the band would call it quits on new music in 2025, fans are still unsure about the band’s future.

In 2021, Martin disclosed that Coldplay was nearing the end of their creative output and intended to cease recording new music by the following year.

In an interview with Jo Wiley, Martin stated, “Well, I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour.” “Maybe we’ll work together on some projects, but the Coldplay catalog, in a sense, ends then.”

Coldplay’s “Music Of The Spheres” tour will resume this year, with stops in Athens, Bucharest, Budapest, and Lyon prior to Glasto.
