Steve Harvey is following in Madea’s footsteps. According to TMZ, the comedian-turned-talk-show-host and self-help author, along with his wife Marjorie, purchased Tyler Perry’s Buckhead mansion in Atlanta, Georgia, for $15 million.
Together, the content from Harvey and Perry could easily fill a television network. Harvey hosts “Showtime at the Apollo,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” and Miss Universe, while Perry runs shows on BET, Netflix, OWN, Nickelodeon, and more. Both entertainers faced homelessness and lived in their cars before achieving success.
After nearly two years on the market with an ambitious asking price of $25 million, Perry sold the 35,000-square-foot mansion for $17.5 million in 2016, marking it as Atlanta’s most expensive home sale, despite the significant difference between the asking and sale prices.
Before diving into the numerous features of the seven-bedroom, 9.5-bath home, take a moment to breathe. The property spans 17 acres of meticulously landscaped grounds, featuring trimmed gardens, a 70,000-gallon infinity pool, an illuminated tennis court, a fully equipped gym, and a separate spa.
The luxurious estate also includes a guesthouse, guardhouse, detached caretaker’s suite, a sophisticated security system, and a backup generator capable of powering the entire estate. The main mansion, inspired by French Provincial design, boasts a theater, an indoor pool, a wine cellar, and an underground ballroom with a catering kitchen.
As reported by buckhead.com, former businessman turned evangelist David Turner purchased the property from Perry and then sold it to Harvey. His business dealings and home purchase seem extraordinary. “I went online, saw this house, and felt like God told me, ‘This is your house,’” he shared with the outlet. Turner lost $2.5 million, not including carrying costs, upgrades, and realtor fees, when he sold the mansion.
Harvey also owns a large property in Atlanta and has a 6,500-square-foot, five-bedroom, 6.5-bath mansion in Little Elm, Texas, currently listed for $1.1 million. Before acquiring the Perry estate, he and his family resided in a mansion in the Beverly Park guard-gated community in the mountains above Beverly Hills, California, which rented for $100,000 a month.
