Lil Wayne made an appearance on NFL Thursday Night Football, as the rapper led the Green Bay Packers on the field ahead of their matchup against the Detroit Lions.
The rapper, who is a longtime Packers fan, ran out of the tunnel at Lambeau Field with the rest of the team trailing closely behind him. However, Weezy’s presence wasn’t enough to ward off the Lions’ attack, as Detroit walked away with a 34-20 victory in the divisional matchup. The loss brought the Packers’ regular season record to 2-2, while the Lions currently sit atop the NFC North Division with a 3-1 record.
The 41-year-old rapper has been open about his fandom of Green Bay throughout his career, once naming Brett Favre as his favorite NFL player of all-time. In 2009, Tunechi celebrated his 27th birthday by traveling to Minneapolis to see Favre and the Minnesota Vikings defeat the the San Francisco 49ers.
The Packers legend had left the organization to play for the NY Jets before landing with the Vikings, with Weezy continuing to show support for Favre. “I took a plane to Minnesota to see Bret Favre play,” he told Atlanta’s Hot 107.9 at the time. “That’s my favorite football player ever. He won the game with like two seconds left, of course. He did that for my birthday.”
Two years later, the rap star remixed fellow rapper and Pittsburgh Steelers fan Wiz Khalifa’s Steelers anthem “Black & Yellow” for his own theme song dedicated to the Packers, titled “Green & Yellow.” That time, Weezy’s support proved to be a positive, as Green Bay defeated the Steelers 31–25 in Super Bowl XLV. In 2021, the New Orleans native updated the song with new lyrics.
“I did a song before and we had a good turnout. It was successful,” he said during an appearance on FS1’s Undisputed, which he’s currently a recurring guest on. “We had good results, and we’re going to try to do it again this time.”
