Diddy‘s former assistant Fonzworth Bentley was known for his proper gentleman-like demeanor back in the early 2000s, but according to Da Band rapper Chopper, he was anything but.
Sitting down with The Art Of Dialogue, the New Orleans native alleged that not only did Fonzworth steal a $72k chain from him, but he was actually known to be a thief among Diddy’s inner circle.
“In the beginning. I thought Mr. Bentley was the coolest person in the world. I’m talking about THE coolest person in the world,” Chopper began. “And then eventually Bentley started stealing. And one time we got our advance check and I went and got this [$72k] chain. I asked him could he hold my chain [because] we had a show and he was like, ‘Yeah, I got you.’ And then he never quite gave me back my chain”
He continued: “And then every time I’d ask him, he always came up with beaucoup excuses of why I can’t get my chain. And ever since then, I knew right then and there what kind of dude Mr. Bentley was. A fucking thief. Mr. Bentley is a fucking thief. Period. And that was his reputation too around there. Everybody knew Mr. Bentley was a thief. He used to steal shit.
“Maybe he was stealing shit because Diddy probably wasn’t compensating him – embarrassing the man on national TV and not really paying him what he needed to pay him. I don’t think Diddy had no respect for Mr. Bentley. None.”
“Mr. Bentley is a f*cking thief.”
Last year, Da Band’s Freddy P also spoke with The Art of Dialogue, and alleged that he left the group after Diddy made threats against his life.
The Florida native claimed he got into it with Puff on a bad day and things escalated to the point of no return.
“One day, I was waking up and I was in a mood,” he began. “I’m in the studio, I’m snapping or whatever. I didn’t even want to be fucked with. You know when you around a bunch of goofies and you a street n-gga, sometimes you don’t want to be around the nerds. So I’m in that bitch – I’m just frustrated with a lot of shit going on.
“Anyway, we get into a situation. We in front of everybody, n-gga like, ‘Man, what you think you ’bout it or something?’ He was like, ‘N-gga, I’ll buy every house on your block, shut every light off in that bitch and every time you come out that bitch, you’ll get popped.’ When he tell you some shit like that, you go to picture him purchasing every house, you going to picture every light going off and that shit silenced me.”
This incident ultimately caused the rapper to stop working with the group, which explains his absence from Dave Chappelle‘s infamous Da Band parody skit. He also revealed that it made him consider murdering Diddy, though he obviously didn’t make good on that.
“I was trying to take his ass out,” he said. “Me and my dawg — God rest his soul — we had a G Wagon, and he had his little two twos, I had a little pistol on me or whatever. I had the MAC or whatever, and we were waiting for his pussy-ass to come out.”
